Swarm Review
March 31, 2011 // 0 CommentsSwarm is a brand new PSN game made by Hothead Games, creators of last year’s DeathSpank. The aim is to move up to fifty ‘Swarmites’ from one side of dangerous terrain to another, collecting orbs and avoiding obstacles. Sound easy?
The premise of Swarm is quite straight forward: you have fifty adorable blue blob men who need to be moved from one place to another. They huddle as a group, and can work together to complete challenges. For example, for collecting orbs for ‘Mamma’, the organism your hoard of Swarmites birth from, it is often useful to spread out the Swarmites using the left trigger. For tight spaces, in which there are traps or cliff edges, it is best to huddle your group together using the right trigger. There are also a variety of other ways to control them; stack them into a tall pile to reach higher orbs or to move through skinny areas that even a tight swarm can’t pass through without a few casualties, jumping, plowing through obstacles, and throwing things around. Some actions are unlocked as you progress through the game, so to get a high score on the earlier levels, it is best to go back to them.
