Dragon Age 2 Review
March 15, 2011 // 1 CommentBoth ambitious and monotonous, Dragon Age 2 finds itself weighed down by unfortunate design choices that force players into hundreds of tedious side-quests. These aforementioned quests, while certainly rewarding, come at the expense of sheer boredom. Senseless backtracking, horrendous pacing, and shockingly weak character development aside, particularly for a Bioware title, Dragon Age 2 still manages to offer up some deep and customizable gameplay should one be willing to deal with its many missteps.
Not having played much of the original Dragon Age, I can’t speak on just how well this sequel ties into the original game. That said, the underlying arch of the sometimes-ambitious RPG is interesting enough. You’ll start your journey as Hawke, a warrior who rises from the ashes of a defeated village to one day become a hero of the lands. Once again, Bioware offers the choice of customizing the look and feel of your character, which as always, adds a bit of personal attachment between the games hero and players. Told through story segments, one of Hawke’s quest companions tells of his many adventures throughout the game, which you then get to live out yourself. It’s a good thing she doesn’t speak of the games absurd amount of side quests however, because Dragon Age 2?s narrative would quickly turn into a bedtime story.
Here’s the rest of the review.
