In a time when it seems as though every game that comes out has a number at the end of its title, games that break ground on a brand new franchise can be quite enticing. Especially in the case of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, given the all-star team of designers and creative minds responsible for its development. The team put their heads together to create a world never before seen, with rich, detailed lore and beautiful environments to navigate. They carefully crafted a superb combat experience, and a robust customization system to keep things continually fresh and engaging throughout. In these endeavors, the game is very much a success. Unfortunately, there’s little more offered than that. In other words, this is a role-playing game that offers a whole lot of game, but not enough role-playing.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is rather flexible in terms of its gameplay. Instead of sticking you with rigid class structures and set character development paths, Reckoning allows you to build – and rebuild – your character as you see fit. You shape your character by distributing skill points between three skill trees: Might, Finesse and Sorcery (read: warrior, rogue, and mage). You can dump all of your points into one tree or mix-and-match as you see fit. With multiple different weapon types to play around with and master, it’s possible to come up with dozens of character types. Because it’s feasible to quickly and easily refund all of your skill points at any point of the game, experimentation is highly encouraged. Tired of playing as your hulking warrior? Turn him into a pure spell caster, or a dexterous archer, or a stealthy mage wielding a massive hammer. Things rarely grow stale in Amalur, as you can drastically change your approach to combat at any time.

Combat is fun and intuitive without being overly complicated. The game’s auto-targeting system ensures that almost every single one of your attacks will go where it’s meant to go. With dozens of weapon abilities, adopting your own play style can be fun and rewarding in and of itself. You’ll choose two different weapons to each be mapped to their own individual button, which can be used in different ways to launch multiple attacks. There are mechanics in place to dodge, block, and parry, with different counterattack options available with various weapons. Using multiple abilities is highly encouraged, as the more variety you throw into your combos, the more fate energy you earn, which can then be spent to enter the devastating Reckoning mode. In this mode you slow down time, do far more damage than normal, and can end a fight with a powerful quick time event that grants bonus experience points. All in all, the game’s combat is very fast paced, action packed, and lots of fun. With all of the excitement and customization options, there’s plenty of reasons to attempt multiple play-throughs.

Ok so, the contents of the Gameinformer Assassin’s Creed 3 feature have hit the web and they include a lot of info as well as some minor spoilers (Ye be warned). If you just want to have a look at a list with a quick rundown of all the bullet-points you can go check that out here.

Our new protagonist, Connor Ratohnhaketon (pronounced Ra-doon-ha-gay-doo), is a half English half Native American who grew up with the tribe of the Mohawk. After clashing with the colonists, Connor’s village is burned down which leads to him dedicating his life to confront tyranny and injustice.

Taking place between the years 1753-1783 you can expect the likenesses of George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Charles Lee. Next to the British Colonists players will encounter French settlers and Native Americans. This time around the developers hope to bring across the history more vividly so that players can experience the importance of certain events instead of simply discovering historical landmarks. For accuracy purposes the development team has worked together with historical dialogue consultants and Native American actors.

When we heard that one of the all time great PS2 games was being remade we were very excited and the remake does not disappoint. It’s fun, exciting and the snowboarding world of drops and the individual runs is so extensive and diverse that every trip down can be different and bring it’s own set of challenges and excitement.

All your favorite characters are back, Mac, Elsie, Zoe and Eddie Wachowski. Plus you can still do mind bending tricks and grinds as you fly down the mountain. Other than that, the game is completely new, updated and modern.

There are ten different regions all you can shred around the world. Each region has it’s own terrain characteristics and challenges. The Rockies have heavily forested runs that test your reaction time as you bear down on giant pines at breakneck speeds and Sibera looks like something out of a science fiction movie.

Each region has three peaks each with a variety of runs and there are no invisible walls so you don’t feel hemmed in on your runs. The world seems endless as do the possibilities.

The trick system is very intuitive using the left stick for spins and flips and the right stick for tricks. And the controls are super responsive. The game plays smooth as silk.

The single player mode is extensive and allows you to earn credits to buy better boards and equipment including a wingsuit. The boards all come with different ratings. Some are better for speed and others are better for tricks or boosts. You’ll even be offered the option to buy a mystery board. That adds another fun element to the board shop.

The online system is in a word AWESOME. You can race your friends even when they’re not online but racing your friends ghosts of their previous runs. You can also enter Global Events which will allow up to 100,000 riders to compete in a single-event! What’s even more exciting about the extreme number of players playing at once, is the fact that these events can literally last from several minutes to…. several DAYS! In addition you will have the ability to fully customize events with your friends.

Overall, SSX: Deadly Descents is an awesome game that you will be playing for months. Its fun, challenging and has a fantastic online component. It not only stands up to the legacy of the original but far exceeds it. Go out and get it today. We give it 9 out of 10.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Has Cheaters on The Run

Call of Duty Elite will help Infinity Ward enforce Modern Warfare 3′s anti-cheating policies according to Activision’s Noah Heller.

Boosters beware – Call of Duty Elite’s stats tracking can flag you up.

“Another thing Call of Duty: Elite is helpful for is cheating,” Heller told NowGamer. “When you have the data, you can analyse… like hey, every time I get in a match, that guy is killing the same four people over and over. When we run competitions, we can make it fairer. We can crack open the data and understand what’s going [on]. If you see someone you suspect of cheating and you analyse the data, it’s like there you go, they all stand in a line and he shoots a bullet through all of them. so it’s really valuable for us.”

The repercussions for cheating could range from having your stats altered to a ban, Heller added.

“In terms of the competition, invalidating the terms of service, we might ban you, we might invalidate your results. If someone gets 100 headshots in an hour… you know? We have a 24/7 live ops team, they’re multilingual, we’ve got folks in Europe, folks in the States. we’ve learnt a lot by talking to the Blizzard guys. What we do is we’ll be running a lot of competitions, we’ll be looking at the leaderboards. We do a lot of cheat detection.”

Call of Duty Elite competitions include things such as most flag captures on Friday night, grenade kills in an hour, and the like with prizes including iPads, Oakley merchandise and more.

“We’ve got constant detection that’s going on. We are always looking at people in competitions. If something looks awry, we will we will jump into that game to see if something is up,” confirmed Heller.

The live ops may even join the game to see what’s happening first-hand. “They can join as a physical player, that’s usually what we’ll do. we also look at their last games. Heat maps instantly show up when something is off,” said Heller. “You know, some people just want to level each other up and you know what? People can do that. It’s kinda lame. But as long as you’re not interfering with something, we don’t want to go crazy about it. But with competitions, we want people to feel that competition is fair.”
